A Brief History Of The Organization
In June 1979 I was bored one day and started using a tape recorder
to record the soundtracks to television shows. Then I got the idea
to take them, add my own theme music to the beginning and end of
the recording, and make a completely different audio radio show
out of it.
I gave it the name "The Tape & Record Show", and thus, a homemade empire was
born! The Tape & Record Show premiered on Thursday, June 28,1979. The format
was simple, just television show soundtracks and various music and comedy albums.
The organization expanded a bit in 1982. My old friend, Randy Haney, who was
impersonating Elvis Presley YEARS before he died, joined the organization, and did
the FIRST show that wasn't exclusively soundtracks or records. The show was
Randy
Haney's "Life Of Elvis"
, in which he sang along with Elvis Presley recordings.
Shortly after, Matt Morehead(Randy's stepbrother) joined as an occassional player.
Also in 1982, saw the inclusion of James Stricklin(who premired
"The James
Stricklin Song Mirage"
& "The James Stricklin Happy Hour". The "Song
Mirage"
was just James acting as DJ and playing his favorite records, later
co-hosted by Albert Sims. The
"Happy Hour" was a series of occassional one hour
specials featuring virtually everyone in the group at times improvising comedy skits
and performing music. Jerry Sanders also joined in 1982, premiering
"Jerry
Sanders Hit Parade"
, which was formatted the same as the "Song Mirage", but
instead of concentrating on rock, like James' show, Jerry concentrated on R & B and
rap. Michelle Haney also was an occassional player in the TRSE group, appearing in
various shows over the years, but never starting her own series.
More growth happened in 1985, when Paul Morrison
joined and started
"Paul's Country Corral". Same
basic format as the
"Hit Parade" and the "Song
Mirage"
, but better insights by Paul into the history of
the songs and the performers. Record store owner
Dennis Goodwin also joined in 1985, with
"Orbit's
Independent Sampler"
, in which he concentrated on
playing just independent record label music. The name
was later changed to
"The Independent Sampler"
when his store "Orbit Records" closed its doors in 1987.

As the years passed, people got married,
divorced(James married Michelle in 1983,and
divorced a few years later), moved away, or their jobs
gave them less time to participate, the organization
slowly started fading away. The last
"Tape & Record
Show"
, the one that started it all, was broadcast
Friday,February 1992, after 485 episodes.That isn't
counting hundreds more hours of the other series
mentioned above.

Notable one-time specials over the years were
"TRS On Location at Skatetown"(1982)- our
first live remote,
"King Jam In The Age Of Jam
On It In The Jam on Newcleus"
(1984)- Randy
departed Elvis and sang along with the likes of
Ray Parker Jr. and Prince, and
"An Evening
With Paul Morrison"
(1986)- in which Paul
played his acoustic guitar and sang country
songs.
