I've really got to work on my attention span...

Got a Facebook notice that it was a local acquaintances birthday today, so I went to post on his wall. Suddenly saw posts from his friends saying how much they missed him. I knew I hadn't seen any posts from him in quite some time, but I chalked it up to, "Well, he probably gave up on Facebook, like a few other people I know have.".

Scrolled down his Timeline, discovered the reason he hasn't been posting anything was because he passed from a heart attack in February 2013 at age 69. How the heck did I miss THAT??

Shopping Rant

As a lot of you may know, I've been boycotting Walmart ever since they fired me for getting the flu a few years ago. Mom still shops there, but hasn't been lately. I needed a few grocery items, so I was going to go shopping this afternoon. She asked could I stop by Walmart to get some air filters for our unit. Reluctantly I said yes, and figured instead of making TWO stops, I'd just go ahead and get everything there.

BIG mistake. My cart was a little over half full. I looked at the registers. Only ones open were the "Self Checkout" ones (which I REFUSE to use unless I'm getting a discount for doing my OWN work), a "20 Item or Less" register, and ONE "regular" register, which had two people ahead of me with nearly full carts. I got in the line, already aggravated. When the second person was almost finished, I noticed a hand written sign taped to the register that said "No Checks".

Well, THAT WAS THE ONLY METHOD I HAD TO PAY FOR MY STUFF! I just said out loud, "FUCK THIS!", pushed my cart off to the side, and walked out. Went to get my groceries at Super One, where I had planned to go to begin with. I didn't pick up any air filters. Still have one replacement air filter in the closet, so I'll run over to Lowe's in the next few days and get some there. NEVER going back to ANY Walmart!

Early Birds

Tomorrow morning, everyone in the house will be rising early. Andrew has his first breakfast shift at his job (he usually works 3PM till close), and I'll be up early to drive mom to her eye doctor appointment.

Inspected For Two More Years

Stopped by this afternoon and got the ol' truck inspected. Was in and out in about 10 minutes. Still going to the guy that just takes down your license/insurance/registration info, scrapes off the old sticker, slaps on the new sticker, then sends you on your way without actually taking the time to "inspect" anything.

Borked Software

For some reason, my old copy of Paint Shop Pro 12 decided to suddenly stop launching. Tried to reinstall it from the disc, but it kept hanging. Guessing a recent Windows Update borked it somehow.

Being I'm a cheap bastard, not going to buy an upgraded version of the program. Downloaded GIMP instead. There'll be a bit of a "learning curve", but at least it's FREE!

Not So Smart Phone

People are always surprised for some reason when they discover I don't own a "smart phone". I didn't even get a mobile phone until about a year ago. Figured it would be nice to have one for when I leave the house, in case an "emergency" should crop up, since pay phones are few and far between nowadays. No more than I use a phone in general (rarely even use the VOIP phone at home), I just don't need anything "fancy". This cheap Tracfone does everything I need a phone to do...

Methinks something fishy goin' on at the West Monroe Post Office. Nearly the end of month and STILL no water bill, electric bill, and no Comcast internet bill. Also, even though we live right next door to each other, neighbor got his weekly salespaper bundle yesterday. We got ours TODAY.

All this on top of the mail arriving EXTREMELY early the last couple of days. Normally, after a holiday off, the mail is at least three hours LATER in arriving!

Cash Back

As I posted earlier, I had to buy a new PC Thursday. Well, Sunday, in the Best Buy circular, the SAME PC I bought was advertised $150 cheaper than I paid for it. So, this morning, since they have a policy of refunding the difference if a product is sold cheaper within the return/exchange period, I went back over to Best Buy with my receipt. They gave me no problem. Promptly refunded the $166.49 difference (which included the sales tax difference also).

The refund mostly covered the price of the new monitor I had to buy that day also.

Ugh, what a day! Earlier, I was sitting at my desktop, and suddenly the tower made a loud "pop", then stopped working. Wouldn't power on. Deader than a doornail. Did some online research using the old laptop, determined the power supply was a goner.

As old as the desktop was (around 7 years old), I figured it would be better to just splurge on a new one, rather than try to replace the power supply. So, I go to Best Buy, find one with decent specs, and bring it home.

I start setting it up, then suddenly realize I can't hook my current monitor to the thing! The new tower ONLY has "HDMI Out". No "HDMI In" on that monitor.

Soooo, I hop back in the truck. Decided I wasn't going to drive all the way BACK over to Best Buy to look for a new monitor. I go to the nearest Office Depot instead. Luckily, they had a nice 27" monitor on sale for just $149. I buy that one and bring it home.

I have spent most of the day installing updates, re-installing the programs I use the most, and transferring files to the new PC. Just finished about half an hour ago.

Don't plug electric heaters into a power strip/surge protector. I was sitting here at the desktop, and suddenly everything went dark! Breaker switch on power strip flipped off.

Bad thing, only place available to plug the heater DIRECTLY into an outlet is on the other side of the room. :-(

Another "Second Time" Purchase

Picked up the complete series of one of my favorite shows today, since it was on sale. This makes the second time I've bought seasons one and half of season two. Bought the DVDs years ago when they were first released. I, along with a lot of people who posted online about the DVDs, were not happy with the quality. Turns out, in the original DVD release, Fox used the "transferred to tape" broadcast masters. Most episodes in the season one set had a faint "herringbone" thing going on. Season two, the first color season, just looked "washed out".

This Blu-ray set, however, has been getting great reviews in the picture quality department. This time, Fox went back to the original 35mm prints, scanned in HD, and cleaned up frame by frame... something they should have done in the FIRST place.

Funny thing (or tragic, depends on how one looks at it) is that I paid $30 less for the entire Blu-ray series than the original FIRST SEASON DVD set cost me back when I purchased it!

Strange Dream and Interpretation

Had the weirdest dream last night. Don't remember some of it, but I was in a tall building in a room with a female online acquaintance from Britain who was a Livejournal/Facebook friend for some time (who seems to have vanished off the face of the earth about a year ago, even though her accounts are still there, just not updated). I was "snuggling" with her on a sofa. The radio was on. Suddenly an announcement came on which stated that the building we were in had been invaded by "nanoworms", who would eat through ANYTHING in their path, including the building AND the people in it.

We were instructed to run for the "safe room" in the basement, which was apparently built with a material the nanoworms couldn't get through. So, we go there, with about twenty other people. Once there, the girl and I go into a secluded corner, sit on the floor, and continue snuggling. I get carried away, and put my hand on her "nether region". She backs away slightly.

Then, because I woke up having to go to the bathroom, the dream ends.

I've been thinking the dream over, and IF dreams do have "meanings", my interpretation comes to these guesses...

1. Grabbing a girl's nether region = President Assclown-elect is known for that
2. Because of number 1, Tall building = Possibly a "Trump Tower"
3. Nanoworms eating building = President Assclown destroying country.
4. British online acquaintance = Maybe I should move there to be safe.

Only bad thing, I can't afford to move one house over, nonetheless to another COUNTRY!
